Summary
- We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not load third-party embeds.
- Our website stores just three small items in your browser: rz_cookie_consent, rz_likes and rz_form_name.
- They remember your cookie-banner choice, the artworks you have liked, and your first name on the thank-you page. That is all they do.
- Our fonts and scripts are hosted on our own site, so other companies are not contacted when you view our pages.
- Share buttons for X (Twitter), Facebook and Pinterest are plain links. Those sites only receive data if you click one.
- You can clear these items at any time in your browser settings.
This Cookie & Local Storage Policy explains what information rizoron.com stores in your browser, why, and how you can control it. We have kept our site deliberately light: no tracking, no advertising and no third-party scripts. This page lists everything we do store so you can see that for yourself.
This policy is part of our Privacy Policy, which explains more generally how Rizoron handles personal information. Rizoron is an independent illustration studio, and you can reach us at [email protected].
1. What are cookies and local storage?
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to save. They are sent back to the website with every request, and are often used to keep you signed in, remember settings or — on many websites — track your browsing for analytics and advertising.
Local storage and session storage are similar browser features that let a website save small pieces of information on your device. There are two important differences from cookies:
- information in local and session storage is not automatically sent to the website’s server with each page request — it stays in your browser unless the page’s own code uses it; and
- local storage stays until it is deleted, while session storage is cleared automatically when you close the browser tab.
Privacy laws such as the EU ePrivacy Directive and the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) treat all of these technologies in the same way: a website may store or read information on your device only if it is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, or if you have given your consent. For this reason, we use the words “cookies” and “browser storage” together in this policy. If you would like a general introduction, allaboutcookies.org is a helpful independent resource.
2. Our approach
Many websites load dozens of trackers on every page. We have chosen not to. In particular, rizoron.com does not:
- use analytics services that record which pages you visit or how long you stay;
- use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting or retargeting;
- embed videos, maps, social media feeds, comment systems or other third-party widgets that could set their own cookies; or
- load fonts or scripts from external services. Our typefaces and code are hosted on our own website, so your browser does not contact font libraries or script networks run by other companies when you view our pages.
Instead, we use a very small number of browser storage items to make specific features work. They are listed in full in the next section.
3. The items we store in your browser
The table below is a complete list of the information our website stores in your browser.
| Name | Type | Purpose | What it contains | How long it lasts | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| rz_cookie_consent | localStorage | Remembers the choice you made on our cookie banner, so we do not ask you again on every page | Your banner choice — no personal details | Until you clear your browser storage | Strictly necessary |
| rz_likes | localStorage | Remembers which artworks you have “liked”, so the like buttons show your choices when you return | A list of the artworks you have liked | Until you clear your browser storage | Functional (a feature you request) |
| rz_form_name | sessionStorage | Lets the thank-you page greet you by name after you send our commission and contact form | The first name you typed into the form | Cleared automatically when you close the tab | Functional (a feature you request) |
None of these items is used for analytics, advertising or tracking you across other websites, and none of them is shared with third parties.
4. More about each item
4.1 rz_cookie_consent
When you first visit, a short banner explains how our site uses browser storage. When you make a choice, we save it in rz_cookie_consent so the banner does not appear on every page you open. Storing your choice is necessary to respect it, which is why this item counts as strictly necessary. If you clear your browser storage, the banner will appear again on your next visit and you can make a fresh choice.
4.2 rz_likes
Some pages in our portfolio and archive let you “like” an artwork. When you click a like button, we save that artwork in rz_likes so the button stays highlighted when you come back. This item is set only because you clicked the button, and it simply records which artworks you have liked on this device. It does not contain your name, email address or any other details about you. If you clear it, your likes will no longer be shown as selected.
4.3 rz_form_name
When you submit the form on our Ask page, we briefly save the first name you entered in rz_form_name so the thank-you page can greet you personally. It uses session storage, which means your browser deletes it automatically when you close the tab. The details you send in the form itself are handled as described in our Privacy Policy; this storage item is only used for the greeting.
5. Why we do not need consent for these items
Under the ePrivacy rules and PECR, consent is not required for storage that is strictly necessary to provide a service the user has explicitly requested. All three of our items fall into this group:
- rz_cookie_consent is needed to remember and respect your privacy choice;
- rz_likes is needed to provide the like feature you chose to use; and
- rz_form_name is needed to show the personalised confirmation after you chose to send the form, and lasts only for that browser tab.
We still show a banner because we believe you should know what is stored on your device, even when the law does not require us to ask. If we ever introduce any non-essential cookies or storage — for example, analytics — we will update this policy and ask for your consent before setting them.
6. Third parties and share buttons
Because we do not load third-party scripts, embeds or fonts, no other company sets cookies through our pages or receives information about your visit while you browse rizoron.com.
Some artwork pages include share buttons for X (Twitter), Facebook and Pinterest. These buttons are ordinary links, not embedded widgets. Simply viewing a page with share buttons sends nothing to those platforms. If you click one, your browser opens the platform’s website, which receives the address of the page you are sharing and may set its own cookies or recognise you if you are logged in. What happens then is governed by that platform’s own privacy and cookie policies, so we recommend reading them.
Like almost all websites, our hosting provider may record basic technical information in server logs when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address and browser type. This is not done through cookies or browser storage; it is explained in section 2.5 of our Privacy Policy.
7. How to view, control and delete stored items
You are always in control of what is stored in your browser. You can:
- Clear site data for rizoron.com. Most browsers let you remove data for a single website. In Chrome and Edge, click the icon to the left of the address bar, open the site settings and choose to delete data. In Firefox, open the padlock menu and choose to clear cookies and site data. In Safari, go to Settings (or Preferences), then Privacy, and manage website data.
- Clear all browsing data. Clearing your browser’s cookies and site data removes all of our items along with those of other websites.
- Use private browsing. In a private or incognito window, anything we store is deleted when you close the window.
- Block storage. You can set your browser to block cookies and site data. Our site will still work for browsing, but the banner may reappear and liked artworks will not be remembered.
- Inspect what is stored. If you are curious, your browser’s developer tools (often opened with F12) show the contents of local and session storage under an “Application” or “Storage” tab.
Because these items are kept only in your browser, deleting them is entirely in your hands — we cannot see or remove them for you.
7.1 Shared and public devices
Browser storage belongs to a particular browser on a particular device. If you use a shared or public computer — for example in a library, school or office — anyone who uses the same browser afterwards could see which artworks were liked, and the cookie banner choice will apply to them too. Your first name in rz_form_name is removed as soon as you close the tab, but we still recommend closing the browser completely, or using a private window, when you send us a commission request from a device you do not own. Likewise, items saved on your phone are not copied to your laptop: each browser keeps its own separate set, so you may see the banner again when you visit from a different device.
8. What happens if you delete or block these items
| Item | Effect of deleting or blocking it |
|---|---|
| rz_cookie_consent | The cookie banner will appear again on your next visit |
| rz_likes | Artworks you liked will no longer appear as liked on this device |
| rz_form_name | The thank-you page will show a general message instead of greeting you by name; your form submission is not affected |
None of these changes stops you from browsing our portfolio, reading our blog or sending us a commission request.
9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal or a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to tell websites you do not want to be tracked or have your data sold or shared. Because we do not track visitors, sell personal information or share it for advertising, our site already behaves as these signals request, whether or not your browser sends them.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as the right to access or delete it. These rights, and how to exercise them, are explained in our Privacy Policy. Because our browser storage items stay on your device, the simplest way to remove them is to clear them in your browser as described in section 7. For anything else, email [email protected].
11. Changes to this policy
If we change the items we store — for example, by adding a new feature that needs to remember something — we will update the table in section 3 and the “last updated” date on this page. If a change would involve non-essential cookies or storage, we will ask for your consent before using them.
12. Contact us
If you have any questions about this policy or how our website uses browser storage, please email [email protected]. You may also find our Terms of Service and Refund, Cancellation & Revision Policy helpful if you are thinking about commissioning artwork.
