Custom Button Badge Design Packs

Button badges are small, cheap to produce and surprisingly personal — the kind of merch people pin to a bag and keep for years. They are also one of the trickiest formats to design for, because the artwork has to read at a few centimeters wide and part of it wraps around the edge of the badge. Our badge design packs give you original illustrations built specifically for that circle, delivered as print-ready files for the manufacturer you choose.

Badges have a long history at the studio. Our badge archive includes designs originally made for Malaysian comic conventions, and the lessons from those tables shape how we design for this format today.

What you get

Each design is an original illustration composed for a circular format from the first sketch. We check every design at actual size so that faces, lettering and key shapes stay legible from arm’s length. Once you approve the artwork, we place it on your manufacturer’s template with the correct bleed, cut line and safe area, then send a mockup showing how the finished badge will look.

Your delivery includes a print-ready PDF and a 300 dpi PNG per design and size, mockups for each badge, and web-sized images for promoting your badges online. Set packages also include a simple display graphic for your table or shop listing.

Sizes, templates and styles

We design for badges between 25 mm and 75 mm. Smaller sizes such as 25 mm and 32 mm suit simple icons, initials and bold faces; 38 mm and 45 mm are a popular middle ground for character art; 58 mm and 75 mm give room for detailed scenes and lettering.

Every manufacturer has its own template, because the size of the printed artwork depends on their machine and on how much paper wraps around the badge’s edge. That is why we always ask which printer you plan to use and work from their template rather than a generic circle. If you have not chosen a printer yet, we can design to a standard layout and adjust it once you decide.

Styles range from bold, flat graphic designs with thick outlines to softer, painted character art. Bright, high-contrast palettes tend to work best, especially under convention hall lighting. For a deeper look at the design side, read our article on designing button badges for conventions.

About printing

We are a design studio, so we deliver files rather than physical badges. You place the order with the manufacturer of your choice, which keeps you in control of quantities, finishes (gloss or matte), backings and delivery. If you would like help, we can review a printer’s template with you before ordering and answer questions about their proof.

Usage rights: personal vs commercial

Badge packs come with a commercial licence as standard, so you can sell or give away the physical badges you produce from our files. If the badges are only for personal use — a gift for friends or a wedding favor — a personal licence can be quoted at a lower rate. Using the same artwork on other products, such as stickers, shirts or prints, can be added to the licence. Designs in this service are original; we do not produce badges of copyrighted characters for sale.

• Your manufacturer and their template, or the sizes you are considering.
• Any logos, brand colors, fonts or text that must appear.
• Style references and the mood you want.
• Your event date and the printer’s production and shipping time.

Timeline

Single designs are delivered in 5–7 working days, sets of five in 10–12 working days and sets of ten in 12–15 working days. Remember to add your printer’s production and shipping time on top.
